Birth photography is something I have been wanting to do for a really long time, so when Erin and Josh approached me and asked if I would be willing to photograph the birth of their baby I was honored, nervous and very excited!  They were planning a water birth at home with a midwife, doula and close family members present (oh and a photographer!).  This was the second birth I have witnessed (I was there when my nephew, Alex was born) and my first home birth.

My goal going into photographing the birth of Erin and Josh’s baby was to take full advantage of my skills and experience as a photojournalist and combine them with my portrait work to create a body of images that Erin, Josh and their family will treasure for the rest of their lives.  I wanted to capture the raw emotions that only the birth of a child can evoke, yet remain discreet in my presence during such a special time.

Having the opportunity to be involved with the birth of Josh and Erin’s baby was, from a photographer’s perspective, exciting, nerve-wracking and incredible.  From a mother’s perspective it was nothing short of miraculous!

Oh, and for clarification purposes, Erin has an identical twin sister, Emily.  You are not seeing things. 🙂

Thank you, Josh and Erin (and big sisters Hannah and Hillary!) for asking me to be there for the birth of Hollister Thomas!

I would welcome the opportunity to continue down the path of birth photography, and am working out the pricing and package details.  Please contact me if you are interested in preserving one of the most incredible days of your life.

A special thank-you to my brother-in-law, Scott for helping me get this slideshow together!  Slideshow music by Philip Wesley.

Thanks for reading (and watching!)…
